It's run by a very dedicated person who cares greatly about the jewish tradition of the Tallis and Teffillin. He has a history and FAQ of the Tefillin Talleisim Mezzuzahs and other things from our Jewish custom
I think that if there is any place to start with your history lesson then his site is by far the place to start.
